Changes to NICs apply from April 2024

Following the Spring Budget update on 6 March 2024, the Government has announced changes to National Insurance contributions (NICs) rates for the 2024-25 tax year. Pending parliamentary approval, the change is to the main rate of Primary (Employee) Class 1 NICs for earnings paid on or after 6 April 2024.

How to Make Sure You Comply

If you are using a payroll software and have already started getting payroll ready for payments due from April 6, it might need changes and testing to comply with the latest NIC rates.

With paiyroll® these new NIC rates are already applied from April 6, so you don’t have to worry.

If you are unable to make changes from April 6, you will have to make adjustments across the early tax periods to bring everything back into alignment.

“We realise the timeline for this is tight and it is possible that some employers will not be able to deduct the correct NICs rates from 6 April. HMRC will be directing employees to their employers to correct any overpaid NICs in the first instance.”
