Follow this guide to understand the operation, the naming of this pay definition and how you might wish to modify it
Overview #
Multiple different types of deduction may need to be applied to an employee. These include Student loans, Postgraduate loans, and several deduction order types including AEO, DWP, CSA, Magistrate’s, Arrestment and Council Tax AEO (CTAEO). Because there are strict rules about the order in which these are applied and some deductions may not be possible when others have a priority, these are all handled in the GB Liability pay definition.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to come up with a better description than GB Liability to cover all of these so we always write a message on the payslip to show the full details of the deduction e.g.
Student/Postgrad Loan (SL/PGL): SL deductable -5.0, PGL deductable -11.0, deducted 16.0 for HMRC, reference (FPS)
Court AEO, court payee (England and Wales) deducted 180.26 for Centralised Attachment of Earnings Payments (CAPS) office, reference XXX
Payslip label change #
However, if you’re happy that for a particular company all such deductions are to be labelled, for example, Student Loan, because you have no other debt orders, you can change the description of GB Liability pay definition – the description appears on the payslip.
Go to Company Setup > Pay Definitions > update GB Liability Description. but not the Name. Then click Update. Live payslips will be ready and My Documents payslips will need a pay run redo.
but be aware if you ever operate a debt order, it won’t be quite right
