HMRC Payroll number (RTI PayId)

1 min read

Follow this article to locate and confirm your HMRC Payroll number. You can find this in your personal tax account and in paiyroll®.

You will have one Payroll number for each employment. That means you have different Payroll numbers for different employers. The format of the number may vary depending on where the Payroll number came from:§

  • paiyroll® uses a format comprising a number followed by a slash and a start date, e.g. 13/2026-01-21
  • Other payroll systems use different formats, e.g. M308 or 1234

If your company uses works IDs, these are shown on the payslips and are different from your HMRC Payroll number.
